Greetings from beautiful Johns Island,
We celebrated as a full camp last week with a festive 4th of July extravaganza. The morning started with cinnamon rolls, fresh berries and turkey bacon, a musical parade, a Color Guard ceremony to honor the flag and our country’s independence, then we quickly broke into our traditional groups of pie-baking, milk carton boat building, sign making and booth building.
After an all-American lunch of burgers and chips, we had a brief rest hour followed by our Fun Run (where campers and staff can run, walk, skip, dance, cartwheel, etc… the entire way), freshly sliced watermelon, Regatta (kayak race, canoe race and milk carton boat race), beach time (it was a HOT day so the water felt great!) and our traditional Salmon Bake.
After eating a delicious salmon dinner, we all ate the pies that were made with care earlier in the day, cleaned up, then went to Mission Point for the highly anticipated Carnival. Creative booths were in full force and the community was buzzing with glee at the many options available for entertainment and fun.
Thanks to all of the staff members who helped make this day memorable and fun for everyone. We couldn’t do this without our strong team. We hope all of you enjoyed a memorable and safe 4th of July. We’ll be back in touch soon with more news from the last few days. Our Big Trips just returned today – so we’re very excited to catch up with our oldest units and hear about their adventures!
All the Best,
Sheila and the Nor’wester Team
