DSC_7517Dear Parents, Families and Friends,

What a day! Our dedicated Travel Staff covered lots of ground today – from the airport to the meeting point at the school in Seattle to the marina in Anacortes – with campers traveling from both near and far to make the trek to Johns Island. And the weather was absolutely beautiful. Lots of excitement and smiles filled the air as the campers arrived and ran up the dock ramp under the whooping and hollering welcoming arms of staff members.

DSC_7444DSC_7469DSC_7453After acquainting the unit and walking around the property, campers went to the lodge and took their turn for lice checks, ate a piece of fruit, filled water bottles and then took some time to settle into their units.

DSC_7507The dinner menu included our opening night tradition of pasta, sauce, ground beef, hot vegetables, rolls, salad and the ever-popular rice krispie treats. We also went over dining room protocol, what it means to be a jumper, and started the session off with a bang by singing four fantastic songs from the Nor’wester songbook – The Mermaid, Midnight Special, Michael Row the Boat Ashore, and Fennario.

We are happy to report that the campers have now settled in and are sleeping peacefully in their tipis and canvas tents right now. The wake-up bell will ring at 7:20am in tomorrow morning, with the jumper bell at 7:40am, giving everyone plenty of time to have hands washed and be ready for breakfast at 8:00am.

DSC_7519We feel incredibly fortunate to get to spend this quality time with your camper and we are so looking forward to the coming weeks. I will be posting a few pictures and giving you interesting tidbits on upcoming activities throughout the session, but the real details of your camper’s experience will come directly from them at the end of camp. You have given them a wonderful gift by supporting their camp experience and helping them discover new character traits, gain independence and grow new friendships.

Thank you for believing in what we do. Here’s to a wonderful session!

In the Spirit of Camp –

Sheila, Director
