Dear Parents and Families –

Camp is swimming along, with full days and restful nights full of sun, rain, eagles overhead and orcas in the distance. Never a dull moment…and somehow, there always seems to be time for reflection and contemplation, friendship and camaraderie, times of missing home and times filled with the wonder of self-discovery and future hopes and dreams. We are fortunate to have anchored traditions, systems and activities in place that keep us all in the present and equally co-contributing to the forming of our summer community. What a gift.

We had to say good-bye to our youngest campers yesterday, the Archers and Explorers. It seems as if they only just arrived. Their youthful spirits and playful antics kept us all in smiles and they will be greatly missed. We hope they will choose to return next year for our four-week session. As some of you may know, this is our last summer offering the two-week Archer/Explorer program. Through extensive talking, polling of parents, and discussion with our board and alumni, we have decided that moving all of our units to a four-week program starting in 2017 will be in line with not only our vision, but also with our history. We are thrilled about this exciting change and will look forward to telling you more in an upcoming note as well as in our newsletter.

In other news at camp, our four oldest units left on their Big Trips for five days – Sailing, Alpine Backpacking, Hunt Canoe, Biking in the Islands, Mount Baker ascent and Kayaking. Campers still remaining at camp are back to regular program, head out on an overnight today, and then will get to participate in Nell Day on Wednesday, in honor of Nell Robinson who owned and stewarded the land before Nor’wester bought it seventeen years ago. They will divide into teams by color, go to specials (unique program offerings by the staff), participate in team challenges, and culminate with a scavenger hunt to find the great watermelon!

We hope that your summer is going as well as ours and will keep you posted with more pictures and stories soon.

In the Spirit of Camp,

Sheila and the Nor’wester Team
