Dear Families and Friends of 2nd Session Nor’wester campers ~

We are sooooooo happy your campers are here! They arrived safe and sound yesterday to a hearty welcome at the dock – met by exuberant staff members, beautiful blue skies and warm sunshine. We had record success with luggage and solved all mysteries of ‘misplaced bags’ by the end of the night before bedtime. 🙂

Our first-night dinner of pasta, sauce, salad, hot veggies and gourmet rolls disappeared quickly and was met with great gusto by many hungry campers. And let’s not forget the rice krispie treats for dessert!

Today was Orientation Day, where all units rotate through the activity departments as well as the health center, kitchen and recycle central area. It is a great way to get an introduction to all of the facets of camp – including activities (crafts, nature, outdoor living skills, archery, waterfront, adobe oven, music, ropes course, drama, garden, native cultural activities), dining room expectations (how to set a table, how to be a jumper, guidelines for meals), lifestyle and keeping our community clean and sustainable.

The introductory campfire was tonight, which included a skit by every unit where they creatively needed to include everyone’s name in their unit as well as where they are from. The evening was a big hit – and the kitchen team and waterfront staff did a wonderful job of hosting.

There will be more fun to report in the near future, so for now, know that we are taking good care of your children and that you will soon be receiving a postcard written by your camper at the end of the first day. Tomorrow everyone leaves for their first overnight, so building tarp shelters, cooking out, and unit bonding are all on the agenda. Send positive thoughts for starry skies (or in the case of inclement weather –  impeccable tarp shelter assembling ). Either way will be an adventure!

Warm Wishes,

Sheila
