Dear Families and Friends,

This is the point in the summer where we all want the days to slow down just a little bit in order to savor every bit of remaining time we have with each other here at Nor’wester. We apologize for the delay in posting, as we have had some technical difficulties uploading photos on our little remote island.

Our schedules have been full and our friendships strengthen with each day. We had to say goodbye to our Archer and Explorer Units at the beginning of this week – they are greatly missed, as they brought such humor, wonder, energy and playfulness to our community. In the photos above and below, you’ll see them with their Troubador/Mountaineer buddies.

Our Island Fair day was a HUGE success – with beautiful, warm weather, pie-making, milk carton boat-building, the fun run, beach time, and of course, the carnival in the evening. I am continually amazed at the creativity and ingenuity of these young minds. Watch for fun pictures and footage of the event in our Camp Movie that will be released in the new year.

The farewell campfire for the Archers and Explorers had many acknowledgments and praises for our youngest campers – including the Golden Broom Award (for consistent sweeping of the Craft Center after crafts), the Silver Spoon Award (for sorting silverware at the end of every meal) and the Golden Spatula Award (for ‘bletching’ at the end of every meal, which means scraping all of the remaining food residue from plates into a bucket so that we can then consolidate it and feed it to the pigs.) Congratulations to all of the recipients! There were also many fine skits and offerings which made for a memorable evening.

Our oldest four units are out on Big Trips this week – sailing the seas, biking the hills and climbing mountains. We anxiously await their return and look forward to hearing about all of the stories from their trips.

Visitor’s Weekend is coming soon, so we wish safe travels to those of you who are coming.  We look forward to meeting you!

Until next time, Warmest Wishes and we’ll be in touch again soon ~
