Dear Parents, Family and Friends,

We are thrilled to have your campers here! Arrival went very well yesterday, and the weather even cooperated, with the rain subsiding in the afternoon in time for the boat ride to Johns and  first evening on the island.

Our returning cook, Nick, and our wonderful kitchen team prepared a fantastic pasta meal, complete with salad, hot vegetables, rolls and cake for dessert. One young Explorer camper declared, “This is the best meal I’ve ever had!”

The evening activities consisted of settling into our units, unpacking, checking in with the nurse, and unit meetings around the fire. We are happy to report that there was no lost luggage — only one stick of deoderant unclaimed!

Welcome

Today is a full day of orientation where campers rotate to different areas of camp to learn about program, processes, safety and more. The stations include: Waterfront, Adobe Oven, Camp Operations (how we manage our trash and recycling as well as service projects), Archery, Ropes Course, Craft Center, Kitchen and Nurse. Tonight’s campfire is called the ‘Introductory Campfire’ where every unit needs to come up with a skit incorporating each camper’s name.

We will continue to give you blog updates a couple of times a week to give you a glimpse into what your camper is doing and some of the major events here at camp. With that said, we also believe part of the beauty of what we provide is an independent experience where the campers can experience and process their time here and then relay that experience to you once they get home. Many stories, adventures and lessons learned will find their way to your dinner table conversations in the coming year.

Thank you again for the opportunity to live, work and play with your children. Our team of staff members literally ‘lit up’ with the arrival of the campers. Camp just wasn’t complete until they stepped onto the island and added their individual sparks to our community. We are looking forward to spending meaningful time with your children.

In the Spirit of Nor’wester,

Sheila
