What a day! Our dedicated Travel Staff covered lots of ground today – from the airport to the meeting point at the school in Seattle to the marina in Anacortes – with campers traveling from both near and far to make the trek to Johns Island. And the weather was absolutely beautiful! Lots of excitement and smiles filled the air as the campers arrived and ran up the dock ramp under the whooping and hollering welcoming arms of staff members.

After acquainting the unit and walking around the property, campers went to the lodge and took their turn for lice checks, temperature readings, filling water bottles and then took some time to settle into their units. Dinner was our opening night tradition of pasta, sauce, rolls, salad and the ever-popular rice krispie treats. We also went over dining room protocol, what it means to be a jumper, and started the session off with a bang by singing four great songs from the Nor’wester songbook.

During dinner, luggage was delivered to all units by some of our wonderful admin and craft shop department staff. Who knew that trunks could weigh so much? We are happy to report that all luggage has been claimed and at this point campers are sleeping peacefully in their tipis and canvas tents. The wake-up bell will ring at 7:20am in the morning, with the jumper bell at 7:40, giving everyone plenty of time to have hands washed and be ready for breakfast at 8.

We are looking forward to a really rich and meaningful session of growing as a community, learning new things, building friendships, and having an unbelievably fun and memorable time together. Thank you for ‘loaning’ us your campers for the next two to four weeks – we are honored and grateful for the opportunity to live, work and play with them.

Warm Wishes,

Sheila
