Financial Support for Camper Tuition

We are fortunate to be able to offer Financial Aid in order to make the camp experience available to a broader community of campers. On average, approximately 20-25 families receive assistance each year. We typically award partial scholarships and everyone is asked to cover their camp store deposit ($75).

It is highly recommended that families submit their online camper application as soon as their child has decided to attend Nor’wester – please do not wait to complete the scholarship materials. There is an option on the online application to select “Financial Aid Applicant” so that the billing and tuition pages will be bypassed – a spot will be held for your child upon submitting the application just like other camper applications. Returning scholarship applicants will be given priority in enrollment over new applicants as long as they submit their camper application by November 15th. All Scholarship forms are due by December 31st.

Financial Award Guidelines

The Financial Aid selection committee will prioritize the list of applicants based on the following guidelines:

  • The actual amount of an award will be determined on the basis of a combination of factors, including timely submission, personal merit and financial need. In general, our focus is on families with a gross income of $50,000 or less.
  • Returning Campers – Returning scholarship recipients may apply for funds for three years as long as they meet the application deadlines. After three years, these applicants may still apply but will only receive funds after award decisions have been made for other families.
  • New Campers – New camper applicants must have turned in all their forms (camper and scholarship applications) by December 31st, and are enrolled on a first come, first served basis after November 15th.

As part of the review process, someone from the Committee may contact you to arrange an interview with a representative from the Camp. Once the Financial Aid Application Deadline has passed and decisions have been announced, each family being offered a scholarship will be informed by the Camp office about the steps necessary to continue ensuring their child a spot for the summer.

Awards Notification & Timeline

Month Date Event
November 15 Returning Camper enrollment priority ends. New Camper enrollment opens.
December 31 Financial Aid forms due (it is recommended to complete a camper application ASAP prior to this date.
January February  Throughout Financial Aid Committee review of all applications submitted by the above deadlines.
March 1 Last day to announce awards to families.
March Mid-month Second review of additional applications coming in after the above deadlines. Funds will be awarded based on date of application, availability of funding, and availability of space.

Note: Applicants who have turned in their forms after December 31st will be considered on a first-come, first-serve basis as long as funds and spaces are available.
