Dear Campers, Families and Friends,

It is amazing that one four-week session of Nor’wester can breeze by us so rapidly – and now all too soon we are left standing with an immense sense of fullness, satisfaction, blissful exhaustion and renewed energy for what is ahead in our lives. It was an incredible month full of singing, overnights, diverse activities and the formation of friendships that can last a lifetime.  We hope that all of you campers have enjoyed a full night of sleep and a hot shower by this point. 🙂 We miss you already here on Johns Island!

We are truly grateful for the collection of beautiful spirits that came together to create such a memorable first session. All campers and staff members contributed in their own unique way toward our common goals of increasing self-confidence and encouraging respect, responsibility and compassion for ourselves, the community and the environment.

Our Opryhouse production was a huge success, thanks to the multi-aged cast, the ropes course crew, and the drama director, Kate. They performed Jungle Book – right in the middle of the forested ropes course area – complete with makeup, props, and superb acting.

Another highlight of the last few days includes the epic Olympic Games – the true Red vs. Blue competition. All campers participated in challenges, chants, songs and more. Points were given based on challenge results, sportsmanship, enthusiasm and team spirit.

Even though the Red Team edged out the Blue Team in overall points, I think we all agree that the antics, chants and true spirit of the games is what will last in everyone’s memories.

Our fantastic Craft Center staff members, led by the Director, Tamara, put on an amazing Art Night. There was an impressive display of camper-produced art, two drawing stations, photo booth opportunities, live music, Gouda, crackers and sparkling cider, and a runway extravaganza that showcased some of the imaginative articles of clothing that campers created. Congratulations on a fine showing of art, fun and fashion!

The tapestry of camp is made up of many, many moments – some mundane and some adventuresome – but all part of the diverse and rich fabric of our experience. We hope you will cherish the many memories you have from this session and pass on the good teamwork, good manners, and good fun to your friends and family at home.

There are so many stories, photos and memories to share – but you will just have to wait for the release of the 2012 Camp Movie to see more. 🙂

Those were the days, my friend

We thought they’d never end

We’d sing and dance, forever and a day

We’d live the life we choose

We’d fight and never lose

Those were the days, oh yes those were the days

So to all of you first session campers – remember to keep singing and dancing, fight for what you believe in, do the right thing, live each day fully, be creative, practice gratitude and always look for opportunities to learn and grow.  We hope to see you back at camp next summer!
