Community Member Use of Argyle House

The purchase of the Argyle House in the fall of 2022 was the result of a multi-year effort to acquire a property that could better serve our summer staff on their overnight time off periods during the summer seasons. We are grateful to the Board of Directors and several donors who made this purchase possible. We found great success this past summer (2023) with the house, and the staff experience was greatly improved. Argyle House is a special and important place for the continued experience of our summer staff.

We are excited to have this incredible resource to be able to offer additionally to members of the Nor’wester community in the off-season – and our priority is that it remain useable and successful as an important summer staff amenity. Community members using Argyle House are asked to be aware of the intended purpose of the house, and to use the house with this vision in mind throughout their stay.

A Few Considerations:

  • Off-Season Use will be limited to October 1 – May 31 each year.
  • Donation suggestions are based on $40/person/night for one to three night stays. For longer stays, alternative donation amounts will be suggested.
  • Up to 10 guests may stay at the house overnight at any one time.
  • No pets may be brought to the property with the intent to house them overnight. Pets of guests/friends may accompany their owners when visiting the house to meet/pick-up Nor’wester employees, but may not linger longer than appropriate.
  • Beds available are mostly twin-sized bunk beds.
  • Winter-season linens and towels are provided. Cleaning duties as well as some laundry is the responsibility of lodgers.
  • The house is close to 100 years old. Heat is provide through a few baseboard units and plug-in space heaters.
  • Located in Friday Harbor, 0.2 miles from the roundabout at the intersection of Spring Street, Nichols Street, and Argyle Ave. This is about a 10-15 minute walk from the ferry terminal.
