Dear Parents and Friends,

We’ve had many adventurous and exciting days since the last posting, with good times spent in archery, at the ropes course, down on the waterfront, in the craft shop, learning about native cultural history and activities, and with our many dedicated staff doing everything from looking at tide pools to participating in camp service projects to spending time at Trader Horn, our camp store, and learning outdoor living skills.

Most recently we had a full day of fun on the 4th of July – complete with flag raising, fun run, pie making, boat building, regatta, boat races, swim time, salmon bake, carnival and showing of the camp movie. We were all exhausted by the end of the day, but happy with memories of our festive celebration (and grateful for the sunny and warm weather!).

Explorers pictured above are working on their delicious pies, which earned them second place.

The Voyageur unit created an amazing scene for the carnival – the perfect photo opportunity.

At the end of the carnival it was a different story…

We can’t believe it’s already time for our Archers and Explorers to leave us tomorrow. The Islanders hosted a wonderful campfire tonight, honoring these two units and giving them a proper camp farewell. We will miss their young spirits and wide eyes full of wonder – they add so much to our community. Hopefully they will come back next summer for another magical Nor’wester experience.

Our Big Trips leave this Sunday, so we have lots to prepare before the oldest units leave on these 5-day excursions. We also have Nell Robinson Day, another overnight, and the Indian Dances a week from today.

We hope you all enjoyed a wonderful 4th of July and look forward to meeting some of you over Visitor’s Weekend on the 14th and 15th.

In the Spirit of Camp –

Sheila
