Following a program orientation day on Tuesday, First Session campers have been exploring our program areas over the past two days. There’s so much to do at Camp!

Staff member supervises a young camper drawing a bow at the archery range

Campers in our Explorer unit were excited to learn the techniques necessary for the archery range.

From canoeing and sailing on the waterfront to belaying on the climbing wall to ultimate frisbee on the soccer field, there are lots of opportunities for campers to be active at our program areas. There are also plenty of activities that engage campers’ focus and creativity as well as their bodies. Our archery instructors have been guiding campers as they practice their technique and improve their form. At the craft shop, campers have been woodworking in the woodshop, making pottery in the clay room, weaving in the textile room, and printing in the paper room. And out in the woods and marshes and at the tidepools along our shoreline, our naturalist has been guiding campers on in-depth tours of the incredible ecosystems that thrive on Johns Island.

Balance, composure, and teamwork are all skills campers hone on the ropes course.

Campers and staff have also been busy planning menus for their first overnight camping trips (which start next week), incorporating the fire safety and campfire cooking skills they’ve been honing at our Outdoor Cooking program area. In addition, there are evening activities, dances, games, age-appropriate “specials” offered for both older and younger units, and many more exciting options happening every day. There are all sorts of things to do at Camp, and our campers are having a wonderful time trying them all!
