It’s been a performing paradise here at Camp over the past few days, with two special events supplementing our weekly Musicales. We’re so lucky to have some many talented campers who choose to share their gifts with the whole community!

Improvisation was the favorite dramatic genre at this year’s Opry House! Performers enjoyed polling the audience for scene suggestions.

The first special performance event of the week was Opry House. It’s an end-of-session event that showcases the theatrical talents of our campers and staff. Our drama instructor and young dramatists have worked diligently for the past three weeks preparing skits and monologues for the event. In between acts, everyone in the audience sang along to several beloved showtunes and Disney songs. In addition, several of the acts requested audience participation in making suggestions for their improv skits, and campers responded enthusiastically, proposing some very silly premises which led to hilarious scenes!

Several campers from the Mountaineer unit tickled our funny bones at Opry House with a great rendition of a scene from “The Princess Bride.”

All of our Opry House performers drew wild applause from the audience for their comedic, improvisational, musical, and dramatic stylings, and everyone thoroughly enjoyed the show!

We closed Opry House by linking arms and joining together in singing “The Golden Day.”

The night after Opry House, our oldest campers put on an event of their own: Coffee House. This special gathering in the Lodge features performers from the Wayfarer, Troubadour, Islander, and Mountaineer units who present in front of an audience of their peers. It’s a once-a-session opportunity for the eldest campers to share their talents with one another in an intimate setting.

The Summit Mountaineers hosted a wonderful “rock”-themed Coffee House for the oldest units.

Hosted by the Summit (2nd year) Mountaineers, this year’s Coffee House was a wonderful evening of live music and other performances, refreshments, and “Rock Haus” themed decorations.

Additional creative and performing opportunities are on deck, with Olympic Games kicking off tomorrow! It’s hard to believe we’re nearing the end of First Session, but there are still plenty of fantastic events and activities in store before we say goodbye!
