All our Second Session campers have now arrived safe and sound on Johns Island!

Campers traveled to Camp on several different charter boats, grouped by unit.

Our second Arrival Day of Summer 2021 did not disappoint! The excitement, emotion, and energy made it a day to remember. Our Second Session campers were thrilled to see old friends, meet new ones, and join their unit leaders at the Anacortes drop-off site. After families completed the logistics of health checks and luggage drop-offs, it was time to say “Goodbye for now” and wave off the boats filled with campers as they pulled away from the dock.

Cheers and claps from our staff echoed across Johns Pass as the camper boats pulled into view.

From Anacortes, all the campers and their unit staff traveled to Johns Island via charter boats. (A direct route from Anacortes to Johns, the boat ride grants campers new and old a spectacular tour of the San Juan Islands.) On board the boats, unitmates were greeting one another, learning names, and bonding with their counselors. The one-and-a-half to two hour-long ride to Camp allows campers a great opportunity to begin forming friendships and coming together as units.

Camp Directors Jill (left) and Sheila (right) were on hand to greet every camper as they arrived at the dock.

When the boats arrived at Camp’s dock, campers disembarked to wild applause as our gathered staff cheered and waved in welcome. From the dock, campers walked with their unit leaders and fellow campers up to the Lodge, where our nursing staff was ready to greet them, check them in, and perform lice checks. Then it was time to gather in the units where the campers will be living. Unit staff welcomed campers into their assigned tipis and continued to facilitate introductions among unitmates.

Staff members excitedly welcomed campers as they disembarked the boats upon arrival at Camp.

Dinner, dessert, and singing in our great open-air Lodge followed. The energy pulsing through the space was electric! Our campers and staff are so excited for the beginning of the session!

As dusk began to fall, campers headed back to their units to await the delivery of their trunks and luggage. Once the final bags are received, campers will begin settling into their tipis and winding down for the night. Tomorrow will be a full day of program orientations and the opening campfire, so unit staff are making sure that all the campers get to bed early. It’s been a big day!

Campers eagerly ascended the dock ramp to gather with their unit leaders and walk to their living areas.

We’re so excited to have our Second Session campers with us and for an unforgettable summer on Johns Island!
