Today is the fourth day of Second Session, and our campers are having a great time settling into camp life. Unit mates are forming friendships, department activities are taking place every morning and afternoon, and the first week at Camp is humming along!

Lots of tasty treats – and great memories – are being created at our Outdoor Cooking area!

Earlier this week, all the units visited the various activity areas for program orientations. Our department staff walked everyone through the expectations, procedures, and safety rules for each area. They made sure to include space for discussion of projects and goals that campers would like to complete this summer. Campers have fantastic plans for things they’d like to build, cook, craft, and try! Most units even had time to play a game or two at the departments they visited.

The Rangers owned the stage at the Drama department’s Madrona Theater.

A highlight of the first few days of Camp is the intro campfire, where every unit takes a turn introducing all its members to the whole Camp. The Kitchen Staff hosted a creative, Scooby Doo-themed campfire that involved searching for missing items (with only a few shameless plugs for utilizing Camp’s Lost and Found thrown in). In between episodes of the Scooby Doo mystery, the campers presented their introductory skits. Units found unique ways to introduce themselves, including playing the Newly Wed Game in front of a “studio audience,” interviewing with customs agents at the Canadian border, and posing as exotic animals on safari. It was an unforgettable first campfire!

Archers intro campfire

The Archers stole the show with their intro campfire skit!

Apart from the all-Camp events, units have enjoyed pairing up to participate in all kinds of activities: dancing in the Lodge, kayaking on the Waterfront, creating masterpieces in the Craft Shop, playing Capture the Flag, learning about First Nations art, music, and dance, and much more. There’s so much to try at Camp! First-time campers are excited to dive into everything offered, and returning campers have their sights set on accomplishing new personal goals and honing their skills even further in specific areas. Our staff is eager to support all of them as they make the most of their four weeks here.

The first week of Second Session is just flying by – and even more adventures await our campers in the days to come!
