We’re nearing the end of the first week of camp, and our First Session campers have been diving into all our program areas have to offer. There’s so much to do at camp!

From kayaking on the waterfront to belaying on the climbing wall to ultimate frisbee on the soccer field, there are lots of opportunities for campers to be active. Just traversing the camp property to and from activities and meals adds up to lots of walking every day. No wonder our campers sleep so well in their tipis every night!

With the help of our Craft Shop staff, campers are creating a variety of projects at the woodshop.

There are plenty of activities that engage campers’ focus and creativity as well as their bodies. Our Archery instructors have been guiding campers as they practice their technique and improve their form. At the Craft Shop, campers have been woodworking in the woodshop, making pottery in the clay room, weaving in the textile room, and printing in the paper room. Many beautiful projects are already taking shape!

The Wayfarer unit had a great time ponding in the marsh with our Naturalist!

Campers have also been engaging their dramatic talents with our Drama instructor, who is helping them select monologues and scenes to perform for Opry House, the end-of-session production put on by our campers. Out in the marsh, our Naturalist has been leading ponding excursions with nets and microscopes so campers can get an up-close view of the tiny lifeforms that inhabit our ponds and puddles.

Outdoor Cooking offers campers the chance to practice food safety and preparation skills they’ll use on their outcamp trips.

And over at Outdoor Cooking, campers have been learning how to bake cookies and cupcakes in the adobe oven. They are also planning menus for their first overnight camping trips, incorporating the fire safety and campfire cooking skills they’ve been honing at Outdoor Cooking.

On top of all this, there are also evening activities, dances, games, age-appropriate “specials” offered for both older and younger units, and many more exciting options. There are all sorts of things to do at camp, and our campers are having a wonderful time trying them all!
