It’s been a very busy week here at camp! Last weekend was a whirlwind of special events, and at the end of it our Foresters and Voyageurs set off on their Little Big Trips. Those biking, sailing, and backpacking trips returned to camp yesterday, and today marks the beginning of Olympic Games! Hard to believe that the final weekend of First Session is practically here. But then again, camp has been buzzing with activity lately – so much has happened this week!

First Session Visitors' Day reunion

Exuberant reunions were happening all across the island on Visitors’ Day!

On Friday night, the entire camp witnessed a magical evening of song, dance, and ceremony during Bighouse Dances, the capstone event of our Cultural Community Connections program. The Mountaineers and Troubadours premiered the dances and songs they have been learning all session long, leading off a beautiful program that showcased North Coast dance, music, dress, masks, folklore, and stories.

First Session Visitors' Day

Parents and campers were all smiles on Visitors’ Day!

Then on Saturday and Sunday, dozens of families traveled to Johns Island to spend time with their campers. Visitors and campers spread across the property on both days, sharing picnics and treats, visiting camper units, and enjoying a beautiful afternoon together. Our campers loved seeing their family and friends, and we were privileged to host so many visitors over the weekend.

First Session Visitors' Day

Picnicking on Mission Point is a favorite Visitors’ Weekend tradition.

Saturday night closed out with a special theatrical production: Opry House! Opry House is an end-of-session showcase of the dramatic (and sometimes musical) talents of our campers and staff. Four different stages hosted six acts, and the whole camp rotated from station to station to enjoy all of the creative productions put on by our campers and staff.

First Session Visitors' Day

Families enjoyed spending time together and touring the property on Visitors’ Weekend.

With Little Big Trip departures on Sunday and the final overnights of the session on Tuesday, the energy continued to build after the weekend. And now all sorts of closing activities are in store for our First Session campers’ last weekend at camp. Art Night, Banquet, and Olympic Games are still to come – there’s so much fun left in store for this last week of the session!
