Family Camp at Nor’wester

Family Camp

You’ve read how Camp Nor’wester has a long history of camp experience and has provided a quality outdoor program for multiple generations of families. But how do you know if this camp is right for your child?

We offer a Family Camp program that may help you decide! For four days at the end of August, you and your prospective camper can check out the property, meet staff, participate in many activities, and get a feel for our facilities and program.

Parents (and grandparents!) come from all over with prospective campers (ages 6-13) to take advantage of this opportunity. Some families come for a weekend experience, even without interest in the full-session program – it’s a great time all on its own! The first evening kicks off your time on Johns Island with an overview of camp life. Experienced staff members are available to help families get to know the property and have a safe and fun time.

Activities are planned at our waterfront and craftshop, and with our naturalist throughout the day, offering attendees a variety of options. Some activities will be open to drop-in visitors; others will require that interested parties sign up at breakfast. You can be as busy or as laid back as you like. Kids stay with their parents in the tent or tipi units as a preview to where they will live while at camp. For meals, everyone comes together in the lodge to share experiences. There will be campfires and singing, and a salmon barbeque the night before you leave.

We would love the opportunity to share the Norwester experience with you. In 2024 Family Camp will be held from August 23rd– August 26th. Enrollment is open to children 6-13 years of age and their parents or guardians. Younger siblings may attend with the family but must be at least 4 years of age. Certain camp activities are age-restricted.
