A big part of the anticipation of coming to Camp is the opportunity to reconnect with cherished traditions and well-loved programs. However, there are always new things to try and options for fresh challenges. This summer at Camp, one of the most exciting new traditions is our climbing wall program! (While there were climbing options available when Camp was located on Sperry Peninsula, summer 2017 marks the first time that campers on Johns Island have had the opportunity to climb.)

Climbing Director Quinn makes sure that every climber “knows the ropes” before they ascend the wall.

Plenty of planning and hard work have gone into getting the program ready to debut this summer. The wall itself was constructed during the spring, and our climbing director has been at Camp since early June preparing for the program kick-off. Now, inspections have been passed, trainings have been completed, and the equipment is ready to go. All that remained was to include the campers – and we’re happy to report that happened this past week!

Knot-tying is an important preliminary lesson for climbers.

Several units of campers have had the opportunity to learn from our climbing staff and get oriented to the wall. It’s already become a highly-coveted program area in which to schedule activity time! And it’s easy to see why. Campers and staff alike are eager to expand their skill sets, learn new techniques, and conquer personal goals. With three weeks of the session left, everyone should have a chance not only to experience the climbing wall, but to improve their skills and build their confidence levels.

There’s a lot to learn at the climbing wall – and our expert staff are eager to share their knowledge with campers.

We’re very excited to offer this unique opportunity to all of our campers this summer!
