However, our Assistant Director Jill has compiled a list of media resources to help your camper and family engage with the outdoors while sheltering-at-home. While you’re virtually “going outdoors,” and later when you actually get to visit amazing outdoor spaces in-person, please research the history of these places and find out who inhabited them prior to the last few hundred years. Nor’wester acknowledges that the camp property on Johns Island, and the other places around the San Juan Islands we visit in our program, are ancestral lands of Coast Salish peoples. Johns Island was referred to by local groups as WȾÁEMEṈ before it was named by European settlers.
